EMS Continuing Education Courses

California EMT Skills Competency Verification

Verification of skills competency shall be valid for a maximum of two (2) years for the purpose of applying for recertification. The skills requiring verification of competency are:

  1. Patient examination, trauma patient

  2. Patient examination, medical patient

  3. Airway emergencies

  4. Breathing emergencies

  5. CPR/AED

  6. Circulation emergencies

  7. Neurological emergencies

  8. Soft tissue injuries

  9. Musculoskeletal injuries

  10. Obstetrical emergencies

Upcoming Skills Dates

Note: Registration is required for all EMT Skills Competency Testing. Walk-ins are not accepted at this time. Testing dates will be cancelled if no students have registered.

Steps to Recertify:

  1. Complete Continuing Education: Fulfill the 24-hour CE requirement or complete a 24-hour refresher course.

  2. Schedule Skills Verification: Book a skills competency verification session with MedStat.

  3. Gather Required Documents:

    •  A copy of your Current California EMT certification card front and back

    • A copy of your Government-issued photo identification front and back

    • Completed EMT Skills Competency Verification Form

    • Valid BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR card

  4. Submit Your Application: Contact your local EMS agency to submit your recertification application, documentation, and applicable fees. For Los Angeles County-specific information, visit: dhs.lacounty.gov
